We weren't feeling hugely patriotic on July 4th so we took the opportunity to go out to sea (sort of) on a whale watching excursion that left from the Boston waterfront. Saw a couple of humpback whales who also, you know, seemed concerned by the current political climate. 

 

Boston Central Library

The Boston Public Library System was founded in 1848 and is the third largest library in the U.S. after the Library of Congress and the New York Public Library. The Central Library on Copley Square opened in 1895, and we took a tour of the building on Saturday.

By Land and by Sea

Another fun weekend around Boston. First, riding ebikes around town on a small tour with a local ebike enthusiast named Susie and fellow tourist, Ashar from Toronto. Cruised around town, through parks, past Fenway, along the Charles, through MIT, and along the harbor. All will peddling but exerting little to no effort -- my kind of riding. Then taking a ferry from Boston Harbor to Charlestown for lunch. Turns out Seattle's not the only place I frequent with ferries as part of the metro-transportation system.

Pumps and Pipes

Rainy day in Boston, looking for something to do, found the Metropolitan Waterworks Museum. The building was completed in 1886 and the pumps and engines inside operated until 1973 as part of Boston's municipal water system.
